Context : A journey makes an application product for Sharing Scooter. Platform

Duration: Nov - Mei 2021

Strum is the first leading growth sharing scooter company in Indonesia especially in Yogyakarta. Basically, Yogyakarta Airport is an international airport built on an area of 219,000 sqm. With that area, there is only 1 micromobility facility for passanger there, namely a golf car. The golf car is only used for priority passanger such as the elderly, pregnant women, VIPs, etc. Strum provides a solution in the form of an electric scooter that can be used by couples. Besides that, behind the scooter there is a trailer that can carry cabin luggage passanger

Introduction

Long story short, I was accepted as part of the product team and lead the design team for this project.

Our goals were to:
1. Help consumer to find the services they need instantaneously and rules for using scooters.
2. Increase the growth of pasanger that using scooters through design

My Role

I managed the entire research, interaction design and visual design for the web apps. This project consisted of diving deeply web optimization, a bit of front-end development and  testing. The majority of my time was spent on ideating with Aldiego Adhi M. as CEO, Muhammad Irfan as CMO and Vidiskio F. as CTO

Design Thinking Framework

In making a product, we need a framework to produce appropriate products. This time I will use the design thinking framework. Consists of empathy, define, ideation, prototype, and test.

Stage 1

Emphetize

Kickoff

We started by asking the  basic questions. Who is our primary user? What kind of goals do they have? Why would someone want to use this application?. So from that we start to Planning the Research; Creating the Research Guideline; and Conducting the Research.

Validating Assumption

Get a fast job
‍‍

Laid-off needs a quick income to support his family. they are confused to get money but still “Work From Home”

Increase skillset

Pandemic situation is great for gaining new knowledge and increasing skill sets, they hope that when this pandemic is over they are ready for a whole new world.

Stay productive

People take advantage of pandemic COVID19 quarantine by increasing their skills and learning new things

Huge Planner

They want to know what was done in advance because it allows less space for wasted time. This is especially true for class

Project Scooping

Long story short, I was accepted as part of the product team and lead the design team for this project.

Project Objective
To explore what kind of product and marketing improvement needed in order to have a strong differentiation strategy and win other competitor

Research Objective
1. To learn the say, needs, motivation, behaviour and inovation of tourist activity in NYIA
2. To understand what is the paint point of being  Airport passanger are

Business goals:
Be the winner of electric scooter transportation business market

Matrics :
1. Business Matrics : Improvement and addition of new users (Acquisition)
2. Product Matrics : Good User Experience (Retention)

Defining Research Question

The research questions are the main questions that must be answered at the end of your research.

My main research questions:
1. What is the most traveler’s problem when moving at the Yogyakarta International Airport?
2. What is the important things for traveler when doing at the Yogyakarta International Airport?
3. What things which passangers like or don’t like, goals, and ideas at the Yogyakarta International Airport?
4. What does a passanger think about Yogyakarta International Airport facilities?

Internship offer got retracted. Great to gain knowledge in my field in the industry without an internship

Hypothesis

1. The passanger has really lose time to be fast in YIA?
2. Passanger difficult to bring their luggage while moving in YIA?
3. Passengers prefer to use micro-mobility facilities that can speed up their journey at the airport rather than walking
4. Passengers feel that the facilities at YIA airport are lack

Creating Research Guideline

After compiling a research plan, then I made a research guideline that contains how we started the In-Depth-Interview.
There is no standard format in this guideline. We can make it according to our version. The important thing is we can gather a lot of the right information.

Conducting Research

From connducting research, we will understand what the passangers goals,  likes and dislikes. We will also understand the purpose of passanger. And the most important thing is we can get additional ideas from them to make mobility easier.

Define

Affinity Diagram

From the results of IDI, there will be many points from respondents’ answers that will become observations. Then, the inventions are classified according to their similarity.

From the insight we get, then we make the design mandates. Design mandates are our own ideas to solve the problem from the insights. We don’t have to solve everything, but we can also choose and prioritize what can be resolved. And this is the design mandates from a few insights above:

1. Create a web based application with knowledge of how to use a scooter for passangers
2. Make passenger a place to be able to request a scooter category labeling (using a scooter, temporary parking, stopping use, etc.) at the airport to fit the traveler's goals
3. Give instructions on how to start using the scooter in front of the stand (front liner) and request (in the waiting room)
4. Provide feedback services that are felt by couples when using a scooter
5. Displays the countdown time for certain limited usage
6. Provide reliable information about flight departure schedules
7. Establish partnerships with other transportation services (golf car)

From this design mandate, we can choose which one is feasible to do which is of course the most urgent. I chose to focus on points 1 - 5. Why? Because from the results of the IDI, the passanger feels less knowledgeable about using the scooters available at the airport and the mechanism, especially the request featureSo, I already know what product to develop. That is about providing something "tutorial" that can help passanger explore places at the airport.

User Flow

High Fidelity

Challange 1

Simple but elegant

Engagement is one of my principles in design. One way to get engaged is to make a simple interface, but still elegant. I only use one as a promar color (red), which is a company icon which is a symbol of resistance in this pandemic situation

Challange 2

Schedule

It's important for users to create a structured schedule. Apskilled integrate with other platform like google calender for schedule and zoom or google meet for meeting

Challange 3

Finding mentor

I wanted to simplify mentee to find their mentor.  by creating 3 important filters on the left of the screen and a brief explanation of the mentor. Spend less time researching and more time getting the full experience on their next class.

Challange 4

Profile showcase

It's cool for users to go back and see what tracks they've listened to, what genre, and how long ago it was. It helps you get a better feel for what kind of music kick you've been in lately at a glance without having to go into your profile.

Section 3

Ideation

Sketch

In the initial phase of this ideation, we will first make a napkin sketch to describe briefly what kind of product we will make.

This is useful for simplify the description of my apps and to make it easy to understand the usage of this application.

Concept Model

This concept model is what I think as the most difficult process. Because I have to understand the connection between one part and another. Above, I sort out the most important parts are the user, location, local transport, and local partner. From this big parts, we connect with each other to form a sustainable system.

Takeaways

User Job & User Journey

Yup! So here we make a trip for the user so they can find something they look for. We are assigned to help them to head to their expectations. The first thing to do is creating a user jobs (jobs to be done), then just create a user journey. Here is a list of the main user jobs along with the examples of the user journey.

Wireframe

The wireframe is the easiest and cheapest development. This will help before working deeper into hi-fi design.

UX Writing

Uwu! I’m really happy about this part. Here I make a brand voice for the application that I made. I was told to think about the personalities of the application. I have to think if an application becomes a human, then what personalities will they have? Make the true personalities as well as the wrong personalities for an application.

Smart, but not “Mr. Know-It-All”

I want Strum smart to tell you about the scooters while requested. The information does not only come from us, but also from the reviews of people who have visited tourist sites.

Friendly, but not tacky

The friendliness is inspired by the friendliness of the local people who have very different characteristics from the urban people. Local people, especially rural people, tend to be more polite and helpful (not true for all, only most of them).I put this in a pop up notification that starts with the word “Upps” as a sign of our politeness to the user. Then, followed by a few questions to make sure the internet is active and ask to try again later. That’s it and not tacky in responding to something.

Solutive, but not complicated

We offer convenience to make travelers get the best local transportation easily. You can book and don’t have to worry about getting a “surprise price” from a local transport service provider with an unknown track record. If you cancel your trip for some reason, then just submit a refund or reschedule the time. Simple, right?

Section 4

Prototipe

At this stage, we will do 2 main things:
1. User Interface
2. Prototype & Interaction

You can see prototype and interactions in this link :

bit.ly/strumportofolio

Section 5

Test

Usability Testing

I did Direct UT to people in the office and friends of the community. The advantage of direct UT is that we can see how their facial expressions and their movements when using the application in this prototype directly. To strengthen the testing of this application, I also did Remote UT via Maze. These tools are very helpful for giving MVP journey feedback and some responses regarding the design. So far, according to the user, this application is quite good, but one thing become pain point in the “add voucher” section:
